J.J. Abrams, the man behind the successful Star Trek reboots, has announced that production for his next space-opera reinvention, Star Wars Episode VII, is now scheduled to start shooting as early as January 2014. This announcement puts both Disney and Abrams on schedule for the first instalments release in 2015.
Deadline.com has reported that Abrams and his family are uprooting themselves from their L.A. home, with the director stating – “we are going to be moving to London at the end of the year for the ‘Star Wars’ movie.” This follows on from the announcement that Disney made last month after the UK did tax-break deals to encourage Disney to film in the U.K.
Abrams went on to discuss how he will be approaching the new instalments – “”It is so massive and so important to people. I think the key to moving forward on something like this is honouring but not revering what came before.” What do we read into this? Well Abrams was happy to play fast and loose with the canon for Star Trek, it would make sense that we can expect the same with Star Wars.
