JJ Abrams will build a facility in LA for Star Wars Episode VII because of concerns to his family life being disrupted.
It had been well reported that J.J Abrams was less than satisfied when head of Disney Kathleen Kennedy announced that Star Wars Episode VII would be shot in the UK, because of concerns that the production would disrupt his family life.
It emerged today that Abrams has bucked the decision of the studio bosses and set about plans to build a 3 storey, 18,000 square foot facility including green rooms, sound studios and production bays, closer to home in Los Angeles.

Abrams previous films, including both reboots of the Star Trek franchise, were shot in LA. Now it seems at least part of the production will be kept across the pond. The past six Star Wars movies were all filmed in the UK at Elstree, Shepperton, Leavesden, Ealing and Pinewood. Disney, who acquired Lucas Film for $4.05 billion in October last year, wanted to follow the previous pattern of using UK studios as Lucas had with the previous instalments.
Earlier this year, Abrams joked about Disney’s decision to keep using of U.K. studios and the impact in could have on his children, saying “When you’re 13, and 14, it’s like, f*** that, I don’t care what the movie is.”
Neither the House of Mouse or Abrams production company, Bad Robot, has made a public statement on the decision.
Star Wars Episode VII is due to be released in 2015.
